Ryobi Battery Chargers
Ryobi is one of the most popular manufacturers of power tools. Since many of the Ryobi tools are cordless, Ryobi has come up with some great battery chargers that are easy to operate and charge batteries efficiently. If you use a Ryobi cordless tool, you will want to make sure that you choose the right charger and that you use it correctly. This will help to keep your batteries in top condition.
Benefits of Ryobi Chargers
Low Price. One of the biggest benefits is how reasonably priced Ryobi chargers are, especially for what you get. Prices will depend on the voltage and size that you decide to purchase, but they can be found anywhere from $12-$90 depending on where you buy them and the type of charger you need. Often times buying online is a lot cheaper then what you will find at a retail store.
Longer Life. Ryobi is widely known for supplying chargers that have longevity and rarely fail in the first few years of use.
Fast Charging. Ryobi battery chargers are known for being able to quickly recharge your tools. In fact, some users report having to wait only 20-30 minutes before their tools are charged back to full power. Typically charging takes 1 hour on a fully discharged battery.
Battery Chargers Available
One of the newer chargers that is now available is the TEK4 AP4500 MPS Rapid Charger. This charger has many new features such as the dual fuel gauge to show the remaining charge of a battery. It can also charge two batteries at the same time.
The Ryobi One+ System
The advantage of the One+ system is that each tools uses the same battery and charger. By having one type of battery for a number of tools, this will save you the cost and hassle of managing and charging several types of batteries. If you are a fan of cordless power tools, you realize how difficult it can be to manage multiple battery types.
The 18v Ryobi battery is the basis behind the One+ system, which only takes 1 hour to charge, although some claim it is closer to 1.5 hours for a fully discharged battery. The Smart Charger that comes with the Ryobi One+ System has indicator lights (Red, Yellow and Green) that provide information about the batteries and charging cycle:
Red = Fast Charging Mode
Green= Fully Charged Battery
Yellow + Green = Indicate the first start of the charge cycle. If these lights stay on for more then 10 minutes, there could be a problem.
With all of these benefits, its easy to see why Ryobi battery chargers are so popular.
Proper Charger Care
It is recommended that you don't use your battery charger in the cold, instead charge your batteries indoors and above 50 degrees F but no more then 100 degrees F if possible. If a battery is hot from recent use, it is recommended that you let it cool down approximately 30 minutes, before recharging.
When cleaning your battery charger it is a good idea not use solvents, since this may damage the plastic. Fluids such as brake fluid, gasoline, penetrating oils or other petroleum based products are especially harmful to plastic parts. Instead use clean cloths to remove dirt, oil, grease, dust, etc.
